EOA: US NGLs Exports Increase to Record High
Summary
Figure (1) shows trends in US hydrocarbon gas liquids (HGLs), which are a subset of NGLs and some of them are labeled LPG. They include
Ethane: Used as a petrochemical feedstock to produce ethylene for plastics.
Propane: Commonly used as a fuel for heating, cooking, and in vehicles.
Butane: Often used in lighters, as a fuel, or blended into gasoline.
Isobutane: A variant of butane, used in refrigeration and as a propellant.
Pentanes: Used in gasoline blending or as a diluent for heavy crude oil. It is also called natural gasoline.
Exports are now at a record high. Below we discuss the causes and the outlook.
