Chart of the Day: Saudi Energy Mix is Changing

Summary

Figure (1) above shows Saudi power generation by source. About 67% of generation comes from natural gas. About 33% comes from oil. The role of renewable energy remains negligible.

EOA’s Main Takeaway

The recent large gas discoveries in Saudi Arabia will change the generation mix in Saudi Arabia.  In addition, the mega solar and wind projects will reduce the amount of oil used in power generation to seasonal use during summer months. The same applies to desalination plants.
