Chart of the Day: Turkey’s Oil Imports from Russia Remain Elevated Despite Western Sanctions 

Summary

Figure (1) above shows Turkey’s oil imports, both crude and products, by country of origin. It shows how imports from Russia increased after the EU’s self-imposed boycotts of direct oil imports from Russia. Average seaborne oil imports from Russia in 2021 were 372 kb/d. Current seaborne imports are close to 1 mb/d!

EOA’s Main Takeaway

We decided to focus on this topic because of media bias that wants to show the success of sanctions and the price cap imposed on Russian oil. It is clear that the bias was intentional and came at the expense of journalistic integrity.
