Chart of the Day: Air Travel at Record High, but Plane Departures are Down, Leading to Lower Jet Fuel Demand

Summary

Figure (1) above compares the numbers of passengers going through US airports in 2024 in the first seven months of the year to that of pre-COVID in 2019 for the same period. It shows that the number of passengers increased by 6.2% to 2,473 million passengers per day. Meanwhile, jet fuel consumption during the same period declined by 2.9% to 1.681 mb/d.
