Reuters: EU Shelves Idea of Sanctions on Russian LNG Imports
Summary
European officials have scrapped plans to ban Russian liquefied natural gas imports due to opposition from some governments and uncertainty about alternative sources, EU officials said. The Commission now plans to create a roadmap to end the bloc's reliance on Russian energy by 2027.
Figure (1) shows trends in Russian LNG exports to EU countries. These are direct exports, but many EU countries receive Russian gas indirectly after regasification and distribution through European gas pipelines.
